We had a big group of VIP’s visiting the Burren Smokehouse and the Burren Brewery in the Roadside Tavern at the beginning of October: 10 Michelin star chefs from the United Kingdom came to experience the Burren smoked Irish salmon and beers brewed in-house.
Among others, Brian Turner, well-known chef and TV personality (“Ready Steady Cook”, “Masterchef”), came to see us. Also, chef Adam Bennett from Simpson’s Restaurant, a finalist in the very prestigious Bocuse d’Or World Chef competition, and executive chef Lars Windfuhr of Hyatt Regency, London, were among the Michelin star chefs.
The mission of this 2 day trip was to find out where the beef comes from that has recently been selected as a key ingredient for Bocuse d’Or, the esteemed French and world renowned culinary competition, and to learn more about artisan food produced in Ireland. The chefs flew into Shannon airport, went to the Burren Smokehouse in Lisdoonvarna and Gregans Castle Hotel, and then traveled on to see the farm in Tipperary where the beef is reared.
Birgitta and Peter showed them around the Smokehouse, and made their visit unforgettable by serving them our Burren smoked salmon with his own beers – the stout, red ale and lager – in the Roadside Tavern.
