Contributing to European decision-making

Last week, Birgitta travelled to Cardiff in Wales to give a talk on the subject of developing economic value from local seafood.

She had been invited to talk during a day of “Atlantic Forum workshops” which was organised by the European Commission in preparation for a bill that will be voted on in March on a European level. The main subject of this day was to establish how sustainable economic growth can be achieved on the Atlantic coasts of Europe.

The individual workshops covered themes like “Smart growth”, “Demographic challenges in coastal communities” and “Sustainable growth: The role of the seafood sector”. Tourism – and in particular food-tourism – played of course a big role in the discussions.

It is good to see initiatives like this reaching out beyond countries’ borders and hopefully making a difference in the lives of those living in coastal communities!
